After 114 hours and 47 minutes of racing in one of the hardest
adventure races ever, Team Nomad finally crossed the finish line at
06.58 this morning. They slowly walked over the line, exhausted and
haunted by the sleep monsters. Sunburned and starving, they were glad
it was finally over. "We were suffering pretty badly at the end on the
kick bikes," said Grant Sisler. "But during the day out on the mountain
yesterday it was beautiful," continued team captain Scott Cole. Jason
"Shibby" Shibata, who did his first long expedition race ever was of
course really excited to have finished. Nomad did not have a good
start on the race, with lost gear, broken bike and paddle, and some
other things that went wrong. For a while they really doubted that they
would finish the race. But when they realized they would make the cut
off in Saxnäs at 8 pm Tuesday, their hope aroused. They just had to get
over the mountain, and then they would be the 7th team out of 14 to
finish the Explore Sweden Expedition Adventure Race 2005. Congratulations to Team Nomad to their seventh place! By: Emma Wichardt |
