RULES & REGULATIONS

Race Jury
The Race Jury consists of three people from the race organisation; Race directors Mikael Nordström, Helena Lind and coordinator Peter Bylund.

The Race Jury reserves the rights to decide about time-penalties, bonuses, disqualifications and course changes.

All protests shall be written and given to the Race Jury within two hours after the team reached the finish line at each destination.
Protests must be signed by the team captain. Decisions of the Race Jury are final.

Teams who withdraw from the race have to report that to the nearest manned CP and the Race Jury.

Teams
Each team will consist of four competitors.

The race is only for mixed teams, with at least one member of the opposite sex.

The final consistence of the team should be reported during the registration prior to the race. After that the team may not be changed.

No changing of team members during the competition is allowed. All four racers are on the course the whole time.

No assistants are allowed at any time. The race is unsupported.

Airborne Expedition Adventure Race
Teams will gather in Hampnäs, Explore Sweden registration camp (7 km from Örnsköldsvik city) for registration, skill test, education and race briefing.

The race is divided into three secret destinations. The race time at every destination is about 25-35 hours.

At destination 1 and 2, all teams start together.

At destination 3, the leading team starts first. Teams up to 5 hours behind starts at the time they are after the leaders. 5 hours after the lead the rest of the teams start together. Any time bonuses/penalties will be regulated before the start of destination 3.

Any penalties/bonus times on destination 3 will be regulated after the finish.

After about 75% of the destination race course (except at the last destination course), there will be a CP called CRITICAL CHECKPOINT (CCP). From this point the teams can take a shortcut to the aircraft and secure a spot to the next destination. However, this gives a time penalty: the slowest team time from the CCP to the airplane, plus 2 hours.

At the last destination, the teams will race the whole course without a CCP.

Teams always have the opportunity to take the whole course, but with the risk of missing the airplane!

A team can always discontinue the race course, after passing the CCP, and take the fastest way to the airplane, to reach the departure in time.

A time will be set when the teams must be at the airplane . Teams that arrive too late are out of the race and will be transported by the organisation to the finish line.

At every manned CP, the teams get to know their position and time after the leaders.

Flight Zones
Between the three secret destinations there will be two "Flight Zones".

The "flight zone" is the area that the teams enter directly at the finish line of the destination. In the flight zone there will be a medical tent, toilets, fresh water and the team's gear box/bag. The teams are not allowed to walk out of the flight zone after entry. When the teams leave the flight zone they walk directly into the aircraft.

The flights between destinations will take 1-2 hours.

Teams who miss the departure of the airplane are out of the race and will be transported to the finish line by the organisation.

General
Race time is in hours, minutes and seconds.

Teams decide how much they want to sleep during the race.

Time penalties for missing equipment will be added to the race time.

Time penalties due to rule breaking during the course, will be added to the team's finish time, after discussion with race direction and the involved team(s).

The distance between team-members must not exceed 100 meters unless the Road Book or the direction says otherwise.

Traffic rules and the trespass laws must be obeyed. If they are not, the penalty will range from at least 30 minutes up to disqualification.

The teams are self-supporting, but are allowed to buy gear and food during the race.

Littering will lead to time-penalty or disqualification.

No darkzones.

Checkpoints (CP)
Along the course there are CP:s that have to be taken in the right order.

The teams must follow a marked route when instructed to in the Road book.

If a team misses a CP, the team has to backtrack to the CP. If not, the team will be disqualified.

Critical Checkpoint (CCP)
The critical checkpoint is a CP, which all teams have to reach to continue the race. From this CP the teams are allowed to take the fastest way to airplane. However, this gives a time penalty: the slowest team time from the CCP to the airplane, plus 2 hours.

Transition Areas (TA)
The transition area is a CP, where the team can get access to their gear box/bag. This will be 2-3 times (including flight zone) per destination.

Gear drop
At specially marked CPs, the teams are allowed to drop special equipment to be transported by the organisation.

Expo/Media
Every team will have pictures and video footage taken during the registration for the website.

The race will be broadcasted LIVE on the internet.

Teams may link to a sponsor or to another website.

Teams may not show their own sponsors on the bibvest.

Teams may show their own sponsors on their own equipment.
